Exploring the stewardship of food from the land – past, present & future

Exploring the stewardship of food from the land – past, present & future. Saturday 2nd December, 10.30am to 3.45pm

MORNING

Fi Martynoga is author of the Garden Cottage diaries (writing under the name of Fiona J Houston) in which she describes her experience of a year living off a good Scot’s diet from the 18th century. Fi is also author of A Handbook of Wild Harvests. Fi’s talk will be on “How did people once get by? How does this compare to our diet today?”

After the talk and short discussion, take a walk in to the beautiful village of Falkland to visit the Local Food Market which is being run by the Centre for Stewardship as part of its Local Food Works project.

Return to the Centre for a delicious local lunch.

AFTERNOON

Christopher Trotter is Fife’s Food Ambassador and well known chef. He is also the author of a feast of cook books including ‘The Whole Cow’, ‘Beetroot Carrot and Kale’ and “The Whole Hog’.

We will then head out on to Falkland Estate to meet with some of the “new farmers” who are running small micro food businesses by working the land using organic methods.
